Aunque es oriunda de Lima, la difícil situación política del Perú en los años setenta la llevó a refugiarse en Colombia, lugar donde por cosas de la vida conoció el amor y donde cosechó a sus dos hijos. Sin embargo, a finales de los ochenta decidió emprender un nuevo vuelo que la llevaría a Miami.

Durante un verano tomó un curso de fotografía, sin imaginar que ésta se convertiría en su pasión de vida. "Cuando observé las imágenes húmedas en el darkroom, fue algo instantáneo. Era ver que ese momento captado comunicaba detalles que —aunque los había planeado—estaban más cerca de lo que yo hubiese querido", relata. Miriam se encontraba en uno de esos momentos que azarosamente cambian nuestra visión y concepción del mundo.

In 2000, she went back to complete her MFA in photography at Barry University and while undergoing her studies; she embarked on several projects to include: various photography projects, exhibits, magazine portraits and more.  Her most noted portrait was that of artist Juan Fernando Bastos at her studio in Los Angeles, which was published  in the magazine Cosas in Bolivia, ( see PDF ) Here work during this period also involved photography for an Italian Calendar, “L'Azienda agricola Di Meo”, a calendar which was sold widely all over Italy (see image).

In 1993 she embarked on a new project where she worked with Dr Frederic Brandt, Miami top dermatologist, were she created with him a line of cosmetics that they sold at his office in Coral Gables.
